Sama was founded in 2005 by Investment Enterprises Ltd, chaired by HRH Prince Bandar bin Khalid al Faisal. Our first commercial flight took place 18 March, 2007.

Initial investment was received from 30 major Saudi private and institutional investors including:

· Olayan Financial Co
· Xenel Industries Ltd
· Saudi Industrial Services Co.
· Sara Development Company Ltd
· Modern Investment Company for Trade and Industries

Sama flies six Boeing 737-300 aircraft which are maintained to the highest international standards by Lufthansa Technik and by our own trained staff and other providers. We also operate certain flights within the Kingdom using a Jetstream 41.

Why are you called Sama?
Sama is a verb, with a number of meanings:
To rise (high), to soar, tower up, go up, to be or to become elevated, high, exalted or sublime. In the colloquial Sama refers to the ‘sky’ or ‘majestic heavens’

Why do you call yourselves a “low fare airline”?
At Sama, we have focused our operations to serve one region (the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and nearby countries) with one type of airplane (the B737-300), with on-time flights, amenities that make sense, and courteous service. This focus allows us to offer the most competitive pricing available in the sectors we serve.

What’s new at Sama?
In mid-January 2009 we implemented a major restructuring of our network operations that dramatically improved our on-time performance. Since the first day of that schedule change, Sama has operated with 85% to 90% of its flights departing within 15 minutes of schedule, day in and day out.

In March 2009 we began a long-term partnership with Lufthansa Technik, one of the most highly regarded aircraft maintenance providers in the world, to provide comprehensive services for our aircraft.
